Hello, everyone!
I’m Tyler Arnold, and as a volunteer and treasurer for IntraArctic: Alaska Innovation Constituency, I’m reaching out to share a personal project that means a lot to me. I’m excited to announce a Starlink giveaway in Togiak, Alaska, as a small way to give back to a community that has shown me such warmth and hospitality, especially through the kindness of Marie Paul and many others. This gift is just one step, but I believe it could open doors for Togiak, and perhaps inspire those with greater resources to do the same for more Alaskan communities.
I’m planning to land in Togiak soon, where I’ll set up a Starlink system, fully prepaid for a year of service. I hope to make this a memorable event by livestreaming the installation to demonstrate the potential of accessible, high-speed internet. I’ll keep the installation short and simple, but I’m more than willing to stay as long as I’m welcome to answer questions, share ideas, and help the community fully understand everything this connection can bring.
A Community Effort
This project is a team effort at its core. I’m covering the costs and managing the installation, but I’ll need the support of someone local to host the Starlink equipment and provide guidance as the community begins using it. Ideally, we’re looking for an active community member willing to offer a space where the Starlink can be accessible for all – whether it’s a home, a school, or a shared community center.
Here’s what we’ll need to make this happen:
- A host willing to act as a liaison for any questions, tech support, or general upkeep.
- Open access so community members can enjoy the connection freely.
- A reliable power source with a clear view of the sky within 50 feet.
As for tech support, I’m leaving behind my personal phone number and email to ensure the community has direct access to help as needed.
Looking Ahead
The people of Togiak and the wider region have thrived in Alaska’s challenging conditions for thousands of years. Managing Starlink may be one of the easier tasks for a community so resilient! But the internet’s potential is enormous – from educational opportunities to healthcare, communication, and economic growth.
If you know someone in Togiak who’d be a great fit as a host or are interested in learning more about this project, please reach out. I’m planning to visit within the next two weeks, and I would be honored to help make this a meaningful addition to Togiak.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, and to all the community members who continue to inspire us to find ways to connect, uplift, and give back.
Let’s bring Togiak online and show what’s possible!
Warm regards,
Tyler Arnold
